They are referring to the KM south, which is the gateway to the sierras.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1056474655553145512.post-79159144070773159162010-10-08T23:01:57.183-07:002010-10-08T23:01:57.183-07:00wtf is with the comments saying no snow gear till ...wtf is with the comments saying no snow gear till kennedy meadows. haven't you all ready gone over the big passes (Muir Forester etc.), and through most of the early season by then anyways? am I missing something? Kennedy Meadows is in Stanislaus nf right?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1056474655553145512.post-73835695802652725352010-04-01T22:54:37.702-07:002010-04-01T22:54:37.702-07:00Thank you all for the feedback.

If you can't wear all your c...Too many clothes. If you can't wear all your clothes at once without duplicate layers, you have too many clothes. Doesn't apply to socks.

For example, you have rain gear and a wind breaker. Rain gear can stop wind. You also have a lot of layers. Lots of people think they need sleeping clothes and if that's your deal then that's fine. I sent mine home after I fell asleep in my clothes one night and learned I slept well in my clothes.

Ditch the bowl and eat out of your pot. If you need a bowl, use something plastic that food came in.

Use Aqua Mira instead of a filter.

Leave the shovel home and use a rock or your shoe or a stick.

Use trash compactor bags instead of stuff sacks.

Don't carry batteries. Ship them to yourself instead. Ship cables and chargers, too. A GPS is not necessary on the trail. Only turn it on when you have to and then you won't have to carry so many batteries. Same with phone. Turn it off until you want to make a call.

You don't need a silk sleeping bag liner, especially with a 15 degree bag.

A trash bag works better than a pack cover.

Cut the little attached stuff bag off the mosquito net. If there's anything else you have that you can do similar modifications to, do it. Do you really need the lid on your pot, for example? Can you use foil instead?

Don't carry ice and snow equipment until Kennedy Meadows. Maybe pick it up at Paradise cafe and send it ahead in Cabazon if that makes you feel better for Fuller Ridge, but don't carry it all the way.

Carry several small platypus, not just one big one. Be sure to carry a small bottle to fill them because they'll be hard to fill at some of the water sources. Use something that comes with a free drink inside.

If you can reduce your clothing and your gear you can probably take the top lid thingie off your pack and save even more weight.Piperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07884645686976359244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1056474655553145512.post-85186187455278498652010-04-01T19:54:33.276-07:002010-04-01T19:54:33.276-07:00Looks pretty good on the details, maybe reconsider...Looks pretty good on the details, maybe reconsider the platapus, and pack cover. Also I would say you could work on your cook system (here is mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gUD_BCnxX4). Best of luck out there on the trail. The rest doesn't look too bad.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
